The Human Services Dashboard provides headline indicators and supporting statistics for Child Safety Services.
The new Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) is responsible for Child Safety, Out of Home Care, Youth Justice, Public Education, Libraries and Child and Family Learning Centres. The Human Services Dashboard has therefore moved to the DECYP website.
As a new Department, we are working towards providing transparent and timely information regarding our services. Over time we will be looking at how we can best provide data relating to our services. This may mean there could be changes to the location and content of information and these will be clearly communicated.

About the measure: Notification in this measure is a counting unit of reports of suspected acts or risks of child abuse, neglect or harm (event) such that one notification is one unique event for one unique child. Notifications are referred following an initial assessment. This measure only counts those notifications which are initially assessed as requiring an investigation. Notifications are recorded for the month in which they are received, not the month in which they are referred. Some referrals are made in months subsequent to the month when the notification was received. Published figures are revised to account for this.
About the data: Data may vary from that previously published due to data reporting practices.

About the measure: The dashboard indicator aligns with the national definition applied prior to 2018-19, by measuring the number of children, including children on third party guardianship orders, who were placed in overnight care away from their usual home. The figures reported nationally after 2018-19 do not include children on third party guardianship orders. This aligns with a more recently agreed national definition for out-of-home care which excludes children on these orders: Child protection Australia 2020–21, Out-of-home care – Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. In accordance with the national definition, the indicator also only includes placements for which the State made or offered a financial payment. However, it excludes children not under care and protection orders in the Supported Extended Family Program or whose carers receive the Relatives Allowance.
