Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Register

When a gift, benefit or hospitality is accepted, it is declared and recorded on the Department’s Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Register.

Thanks is enough.

Giving us gifts can be a risk to our high standards of ethics and integrity.

So that’s why we say ‘thanks is enough’.

Instead of a gift, we’d prefer that you send us a simple card, a letter or an email. We’d appreciate it!

Departmental officers and employees should not expect to receive:

  • gifts;
  • benefits; or
  • hospitality;

for doing a job they are paid for by the public to do. In most instances, ‘thanks’ is enough.

The Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Policy sets out the broad principles to be applied by and to all departmental officers and employees in relation to the offer, acceptance or refusal of a gift, benefit or hospitality. If a gift, benefit or hospitality is accepted, it must be declared and recorded on the Department’s Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Register.
