Last week, Minister for Education, Jo Palmer MLC, launched a new training package for the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector as part of DECYP’s Lifting Literacy Implementation Plan 2024-2026.

The new ‘Qualiteach Birth to Five’ ECEC sector modules provide free evidence-based training for all early years teachers and educators to develop a shared understanding of what high-quality literacy support looks like across all early years contexts, such as childcare centres.

The online modules are self-paced, and build the knowledge and skills needed to support our youngest learners develop foundational early language and literacy skills ready for school and life.

This is the first time that evidence-based literacy training has been available and free for all early years teachers and educators in Tasmania.

DECYP developed this online training in collaboration with the Tasmanian ECEC sector and was quality assured by the University of Melbourne Research in Effective Education in Early Childhood Centre.

Similar Qualiteach training modules are also available for DECYP, Independent and Catholic School staff working in early years settings.

This training also responds to the Literacy Advisory Panel recommendation to support the ECEC workforce to participate in professional learning aligned to evidence-base.
