Emergency

In an emergency, where someone is in immediate danger, always call triple zero (000) 

Crisis support

  • Lifeline – access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services for anyone experiencing emotional distress with. 
    • Call – 13 11 14 or text or chat via the Lifeline website. 
  • Suicide Call Back Service – 24/7 phone and online counselling for people impacted by suicide. 
  • Kids Helpline – confidential 24/7 online and phone counselling service for young people aged 5 to 25 years. This service is free from mobiles as well.
  • Beyond Blue – mental health information and support available on the Beyond Blue website.
  • 13YARN – 24/7 national crisis support line for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are feeling overwhelmed or having difficulty coping.

Child Sexual Abuse

The Keeping Children Safe website has been developed to keep the community informed about the Government’s response to the Commission of Inquiry report. 

Family and Sexual Violence  

Everyone has the right to be safe and live free from fear and violence. 

If home is not a safe place for you, reach out. Ask family, friends, neighbours or work colleagues for help or contact a specialist support service. 

  • Safe from Violence – the Safe from Violence website has a variety of information on specialist support services that are available to provide information and support to those impacted by family and sexual violence. 
  • Safe at Home – If you or someone you know is impacted by family violence, you can call the Safe at Home Family Violence Response and Referral Line 24 hour helpline.
  • Family Violence Counselling and Support Service | Department of Health – Statewide counselling and support service is available for children, young people and adults affected by family violence.

National Sexual Assault, Domestic and Family Violence support 

  • 1800 Respect – a national counselling service that can provide 24/7 support and information for anyone affected by sexual assault, or domestic or family violence. 
  • Knowmore – offers free legal advice for survivors of institutional child sexual abuse. 

Regional Sexual Assault support 

  • Sexual Assault Support Service – confidential support service for southern Tasmanian people of all ages who have been affected by any form of sexual violence.
  • Laurel House – sexual assault support service operating across the North and North-west of Tasmania. Providing 24/7 support hotline, free counselling, training and education.  

Mental Health and Wellbeing supports provided through schools   

Information and support provided through the Department for Education, Children and Young People can be found in the Mental Health and Wellbeing section of the website.
