The Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) was established in 2022. DECYP was brought together to deliver better outcomes for all Tasmanian children and young people, especially our most vulnerable.  

Formed from the joining of the Department of Education and children and youth related functions from the Department of Communities, it is a name that truly reflects what and who we are working for. 

Services that we are responsible for: 

  • Child and Family Learning Centres. 
  • Tasmanian Government Schools 
  • Child Safety and Out of Home Care 
  • Youth Justice Services
  • Libraries and the Tasmanian Archives
