Every school day matters is the message of a new campaign to boost school attendance.
Launched at Hobart’s Montrose Bay High School today (2 September), the campaign focuses on the benefits of regular school attendance and the moments, big and small, that can happen in a school day.
It will be rolled out via television, social media and digital platforms and includes a new website with a range of tools and resources to support schools, parents/carers, and students in getting to school.
The campaign takes a positive approach, highlighting all of the benefits of regular school attendance.
There is a strong link between school attendance and school completion rates, achievement, and wellbeing. Going to school every day gives children and young people the best chance of a bright future.
Former Richmond Football Club champion, Jack Riewoldt, is the first Every School Day Matters ambassador. Other ambassadors from a range of fields will feature in the campaign over the next 12 months.
Speaking at the campaign launch, Mr Riewoldt said:
“I’m a proud Tasmanian and education is key – not just for the future of our state, but for the future of our young people too. Whatever they want to do in life, a great education lays the foundations for success. But, like anything worthwhile in life, you only get out what you put in.”
“A whole lot can happen in a school day. It might be the day a student discovers a lifelong passion – whether that’s footy, a subject they love, an instrument they’re good at, or a passion that sets them on the path to their future career.
“That’s why I believe showing up to school every day is so important”.
