Combined Primary Schools Band and Choir Program

The Combined Primary Schools Band Program delivers high quality music education across schools in the greater Hobart area. It also includes a choir program. Students take part in school-based lessons, ensemble rehearsals, workshops, and performances. For young learners the program enriches learning, boosts cognitive development, and fosters teamwork, wellbeing, and musical excellence.

Instrumental program

  • Students can learn to play: flute, clarinet, saxophone, cornet, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion.

Choir program

  • The Combined Primary Schools Choir (CPSC) is made up of choir students from schools that are part of the Combined Primary Schools Band Program.

Crescendo Music Hub

Location: Ulverstone – Sassafras

Crescendo Music Hub offers music extension opportunities for students in Prep to Year 12 in the greater Devonport area. The program focuses on building lifelong musical skills. It includes vocal ensembles, and beginner and advanced instrumental groups.

Crescendo Choir Program

  • Vocal Ensembles: Junior Vocal Ensemble (Years 3 – 6), Crescendo Choir (Years 3 – 12), Crescendo Voices (extension ensemble Years 7 – 12 and from Grade 4 by invitation). All ensembles perform music in a range of musical styles, both classical and modern.

Crescendo Instrumental Program

  • Students can learn to play: woodwind and brass instruments – including flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn and tuba. They are part of a wind ensemble, playing classical, jazz and concert band music.

Piccolos

  • Early childhood music session (Prep to Year 2), incorporating singing, movement and simple recorder work. The focus is on developing basic music skills (rhythm and pitch) and a love of music.

EMUsicians

EMUsicians is a combined primary school concert band program for students in Years 3-6 in the Burnie area. Students rehearse on Monday afternoons. They have opportunities to perform at community events and concerts, and take part in school tours. Students are supported by a strong tutor team who assist them in developing skills in all aspects of playing.

Esk Band Program

Location: Launceston
For students in: Year 4 to Year 6

Through the Esk Band Program, students in the greater Launceston area learn a musical instrument as part of a concert band. Students take part in weekly lessons at school, supported by expert teachers. In addition to participating in small group lessons, students collaborate to form school-based bands and also join with peers from other schools to create larger regional bands.

  • Students can learn to play: flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion.

Newstead College Extension Bands

  • As part of the Esk Band program, Newstead College offers two extension bands: The Combined Primary Band, extending the experience for students in the Esk Band Program, and the Newstead College Concert Band for high school and college students.
