Supporting Students to Explore Careers and Build Real-World Skills
The Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) is partnering with the Beacon Foundation to deliver a statewide Work-based Learning (WbL) service that helps students in Years 9–12 explore career pathways, connect with local industry, and develop job-ready skills.
Funded through a $2.4 million investment under the Youth Jobs Strategy, this initiative is designed to inspire confidence, build capability, and provide meaningful industry engagement.
Why Work-Based Learning Matters
The world of work is evolving. Our young people need the tools, exposure and support to navigate their futures with purpose. Work-based Learning bridges the gap between school and the workforce by connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences.
This program gives students the opportunity to:
- Explore different career options and industries
- Understand what employers expect
- Build skills that matter in the real world
- Take part in activities that are exciting, hands-on and confidence-building
At the same time, it helps local employers connect with the next generation of talent—helping shape Tasmania’s future workforce.
