The Tasmanian Government and the Department for Education, Children and Young People are committed to building our highly valued teaching workforce.

A draft National Teacher Workforce Action Plan has been released by the Australian Government which focusses on ways to build the respect and reputation of the profession, encourage more young people to become a teacher, better prepare teachers for the classroom, tackle workload issues, and make sure governments have the right data.

The Tasmanian community is invited to view the plan and provide feedback on its recommendations.

The plan has been developed by a working group led by the Australian Government, along with states and territories, unions, principals’ representatives, and university representatives.

In December 2022 State and Territory Education Ministers will meet to review the feedback and finalise this work.

Consultation is open until 1 December 2022. To view the full draft plan and provide feedback visit https://www.education.gov.au/ntwap.

The feedback will be critical to ensuring the actions in this plan will help attract and retain more people in the teaching profession.
