The Teachers Registration Amendment Bill 2019 amends the Teachers Registration Act 2000 to:
- provide the Teachers Registration Board (TRB) with the ability to suspend or cancel a teacher’s registration if that person no longer holds registration to work with vulnerable people under the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Act 2013 without the need to conduct a time consuming and resource intensive disciplinary process; and
- allow the TRB to participate in a range of data sharing initiatives.
The final Bill has been tabled and is now available on the Parliament of Tasmania Website.
Consultation and publication of submissions
Public consultation on a draft Bill commenced on 9 September 2019 and concluded on 22 September 2019.
The consultation process was undertaken by the Department for Education, Children and Young People and was subject to the Government’s ‘Publication of Submissions Received by Tasmanian Government Departments in Response to Consultation on Major Policy Issues’ policy.

We received five submissions that are required to be published in accordance with the policy. As the Government’s consideration of all submissions has now concluded, those submissions that are required to be published have been made available.
