Literacy Framework and Plan for Action

The 2019-2022 Department for Education, Children and Young People Literacy Framework and Plan for Action were published on 15 March 2019 and launched along with the Implementation Plan on 31 May 2019.

The Framework and associated plans have been developed to support the literacy component of our Literacy and Numeracy Goal under the 2018-2021 Department for Education, Children and Young People Strategic Plan, Learners First: Every Learner Every Day.  The literacy and numeracy goal is for all learners to have the skills and confidence in literacy and numeracy to successfully participate in learning, life and work.

Literacy and numeracy provide every child, young person and adult with the best opportunity to succeed and contribute fully to the community and to meet the day-to-day demands of life.  As a critical building block of learning, literacy has been addressed first with numeracy to follow later in 2019.

The Literacy Framework provides a consistent, evidence-based, system-level focus to developing and supporting the use of quality, high-impact and evidence-based approaches to support literacy from birth to adulthood across DoE.

The Plan for Action details how the priorities described in the Literacy Framework will be implemented across our system for all Tasmanians to have the literacy skills needed for learning, life and work.

The Implementation Plan provides timelines, responsibilities and implications of the actions across the Department.
