Key information

  • Work is currently underway to strengthen our youth bail support service response across government, non-government and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
  • The first piece of work in doing this has been a review of Tasmania’s existing youth bail support service.
  • A 24/7 Youth Bail Support Model has been designed as a foundation for service delivery for children and young people.
  • Our Bail Support Model will meet the diverse needs of children and young people to promote their wellbeing, divert them from further engagement with the youth justice system and reduce offending.

Youth Bail Support Service

A review of Tasmania’s only dedicated youth bail support service, REBOOT was commissioned by DECYP and undertaken by independent experts. The REBOOT service is provided by 54 reasons.

This review was in response to the recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings, specifically recommendation 12.14.b.

A Request for Tender for organisations to deliver a 24/7 Youth Bail Support and Throughcare Service was released in 2026. This service will support the implementation of the new Youth Bail Support Model being developed by the Department.

24/7 Youth Bail Support Model

A 24/7 Youth Bail Support Model has been designed to provide a foundation for service delivery to children and young people across the youth justice continuum. It focuses on collaboration across services to meet the diverse needs of children and young people to promote their wellbeing, and divert them from further contact with the youth justice system.

Through the 24/7 Youth Bail Support Model, we’re working towards the outcomes of the Youth Justice Blueprint 2024 – 2034 (PDF, 1MB), to provide diversion that is early and lasting and keeps children and young people out of the youth justice system.
