- The Child Safety, Care and Youth Justice Outcomes Framework explains what we are working towards, so children and young people engaged in our services in Tasmania are safer, better supported and able to thrive.
- It shows how Child Safety, Care and Youth Justice services support children and young people to be known, safe, well and learning.
- Children and young people are at the centre, with a focus on their safety, wellbeing, cultural identity, rights and voice in decisions that affect them.
- Improving outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people is a priority. This includes strengthening connection to family, culture, community and Country, and supporting self-determination.
- The Child Safety, Care and Youth Justice Outcomes Framework supports a shared understanding of what good outcomes look like, and how services can work together to improve outcomes over time.
About the Outcomes Framework
The Outcomes Framework explains the things that matter most (outcomes) for children and young people who receive Child Safety, Care and Youth Justice services in Tasmania.
It helps make sure children and young people are at the centre of our work. It supports them to be heard, respected and safe, and to get the help they need.
The Framework helps us see what is working well and where we can do better to improve outcomes for children and young people in our services.
What the Outcomes Framework covers
The Outcomes Framework is based on four outcomes:
- Known – Children and young people are valued participants in decisions that affect them.
- Safe – Children and young people are safe at home, in Care, at school, in the youth justice system, and online.
- Well – Children and young people are well and thriving.
- Learning – Children and young people are engaged in learning and are supported to attain age-appropriate outcomes.
These outcomes are supported by three foundations – Partnerships, Workforce, Improvement.
Putting children and young people at the centre
The Outcomes Framework places children and young people at the centre of everything we do. It reinforces the importance of:
- Safety and wellbeing
- Hearing and valuing their voices
- Respecting rights, identity and culture.
- Supporting strong relationships and connections
What children and young people told us matters
The Outcomes Framework reflects what children and young people said is most important:
- Feeling safe, respected and listened to
- Being included in decisions about their lives
- Staying connected to family, culture and identity
- Having stable, trusted relationships
- Having opportunities to learn, grow and plan for their future
Supporting Aboriginal children and young people
Improving outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people is central to the Framework.
It recognises the importance of:
- cultural identity
- connection to Country
- connection to family and community
- self-determination
- Aboriginal leadership and knowledge
The Outcomes Framework helps us stay focused on what matters most for children and young people.
Why it matters
It supports a shared understanding of:
- what good outcomes look like
- how services can work together
- how we can focus on outcomes, not just activity
- how we can keep improving over time.
