1 October 2022 marked the establishment of the new Department for Education, Children and Young People.

The new Department brings together a range of services and supports for children, young people and their families into the one place, including:

  • Public Education
  • Child Safety
  • Youth Justice
  • Out of Home Care
  • Libraries Tasmania
  • Child and Family Learning Centres.

This is a unique opportunity to bring together the diverse skills and experience of inspiring individuals who share a strong commitment to improving the lives of Tasmania’s children and young people. Children, young people, and their families are at the centre of everything this new Department will do.

The immediate priority for the new Department is ensuring that current service users see little change in the way they are supported.

Over time, children, young people, and their families will benefit from:

  • improved co-ordination of services and supports;
  • better sharing of information; and
  • ongoing focus on wellbeing and engagement in learning.

By establishing the new Department for Education, Children and Young People, our vision is for a Tasmania where every child and young person is known, safe, well and learning.
