The Definition of Educational Success has been launched. It forms part of the response to Recommendation 1 of the Independent Review of Education.  It has been shaped by the voices and experiences of learners, families and carers, educators and the broader community. The definition is:

My learning helps me grow and prepares me for my future. I’m connected, capable and confident – and ready for what’s next.

The definition provides a shared understanding for students, families, educators, schools, and the education system. It will help us guide decisions, shape priorities, and ensure our efforts are focused on what matters most for children and young people.

In partnership with Catholic Education Tasmania and Independent Schools Tasmania, the Department for Education, Children and Young People undertook a statewide consultation to understand what it means to do well at school in Tasmania.

Almost 2,500 people participated in the process. This included children and young people, families and carers, staff, educators, and the broader community.

The consultation told us that the definition needs to recognise that success will look different for every learner across the stages of schooling.

A detailed DES-Public-Consultation-Report.pdf  is now available.

Work is progressing on an implementation approach for embedding the definition into Government schools. It will be released later this year.
