Course description
This full-day professional learning supports school leaders to establish the foundational conditions that underpin effective attendance improvement in line with 2027 Schools Will expectations. Through a focus on shared priority, data accuracy and use, and clearly defined processes, participants will explore practical approaches for strengthening attendance practices within their school context.
The workshop combines evidence-informed guidance, self-assessment tools, examples of practice and implementation resources to support schools to identify priorities, strengthen existing approaches and plan for sustainable improvement. Participants will have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and reflect on next steps for their own school.
Course outcomes
Participants will develop a deeper understanding of:
- establishing attendance as a shared priority across their school community
- defining and communicating clear roles, responsibilities and expectations for supporting student attendance
- using attendance data to identify trends, monitor attendance patterns and inform decision making
- implementing and communicating consistent school-wide processes for preventing, identifying and responding to attendance challenges
- identifying barriers and enablers to attendance and selecting appropriate supports within a MTSS framework
- planning and prioritising next steps to strengthen school attendance practices to support all students
