We partnered with communities to address the root causes of youth offending.

We began in Hobart’s Northern Suburbs. This included the City of Glenorchy and Brighton Municipality.

Youth After-hours Diversion Service

In Glenorchy and Bridgewater, we have been delivering the Youth After-hours Diversion Service (YADS). YADS has been expanded to include Hobart and Bellerive.

YADS supports young people in community or who have come into contact with police after-hours. It can also support their parent or caregiver in some circumstances.

Glenorchy Youth Hub

We have partnered with Glenorchy City Council in delivering a dedicated Youth Hub. With partner organisations, the Youth Hub will provide early intervention and diversion services.

These services will be for children and young people who are disengaged from school and are involved with youth justice.

Placed-based Early Intervention and Prevention Initiatives

In Brighton we have partnered with Brighton Council and the Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service. Together we have co-designed a program of early intervention and prevention initiatives. These initiatives aim to keep children and young people out of the youth justice system.

Following a successful co-design process, we published Trust the People, Trust the Process (PDF, 2.1MB). This is an evaluation of the project and process. It includes tools that can be used by anyone seeking to do similar youth-led projects.
